For the past six years Berlinda Abed, “Lindy” served as a clinical dietitian here in SW Florida. In that role she taught appropriate diet education to patients and provided ongoing nutritional counseling to patients with chronic disease to allow for optimal outcomes.

In 2018 Lindy was recruited by Core Health Partners to assist in the design of a new and innovative Diabetes Self-Management and Education Program (DSME). Lindy represented CHP in an alliance of experts to create a unique program that would meet the standards of the American Diabetes Association and be approved for payment through most insurance providers. Her role shaped a new innovative program from the nutritional counseling oversight and an effective exercise angle. Core Health Partners is currently offering this curriculum through medical referrals. The National Wellness Institute joined the alliance, which is now the Diabetes Alliance Network (DAN).

Lindy assists in the quality control of the DAN curriculum and records the clinical outcomes. Lindy instructs some of the classes herself. She recognizes that food can be complex, and she loves being in the community centers with the opportunity to deliver proper education. Education, movement and diet are so important to an individual’s wellbeing. CHP’s approach to educate people to a healthier lifestyle approach (including those who live with, or care for, chronic diseases). The team approach of delivering the instruction and locating the classes in the YMCAs or community centers is exciting for Lindy. Keeping people healthy and out of the hospital is our ultimate goal. Having the medical clinicians in the community centers connecting and sharing their information is the best practice.

Lindy is also available for medical nutrition therapy and other nutritional counseling programs on a fee for service basis. Through Core Health Partners access to proper nutritional advice and education is readily available. You can review, schedule and pay for services through your Apple iPhone App or the CHP website.
