Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to grow into functional, independent adults. Physical impairment, injuries and a host of other issues can hamper a child’s ability to perform common tasks or progress normally through the stages of social or cognitive development.

The fields of occupational therapy and physical therapy are often confused. While both roles provide essential hands-on rehabilitative work to help clients perform everyday tasks as independently as possible, each field takes a diverse approach in helping people get back to their usual way of life. The main difference between occupational therapy and physical therapy is that OT focuses on improving a client’s ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) and PT focuses on improving a client’s ability to perform movement of the human body.

According to the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, occupational therapy is unique in that it uses a holistic approach to look not only at the reasons a client’s participation in activities has been impacted, but also at the client’s roles and environment. The approach includes wellness promotion, rehabilitation, and habilitation. For example, you recently broke your foot after playing basketball and can no longer participate in your Wednesday night pick up league. While recovering, you could meet with an OT to get to the root of why you look forward to playing each week. Is it the exercise that’s important? Is it engaging with the people on your team? Your OT will help you to accomplish your goal.

Occupational Therapy Kinesio Taping Service

Price: $90.00 (2-Units of Occupational Therapy/ 45 minutes and Kinesio Tape material fee)

Through an Occupational Therapy evaluation Core Health Partners offers Kinesio Taping® Method. CHP offers Kinesio certified clinical therapist(s) who understand rehabilitative taping techniques. Kinesio Taping is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

Kinesio taping is a latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tape product that is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Kinesio Tape successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions. The Kinesio® Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering the support, but also rehabilitating the affected condition. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

The session above is for the initial evaluation by an Occupational Therapist and Kinesio Taping the joint or muscle. Core Health Partners Kinesio Taping sessions include all tapping materials including the Kinesio Tape.

Core Health Partners also offers taping only packages that are often available courtside where CHP serves as the medical oversight for sport venues.
